Michael J. Winstanley (1991) is a composer from Croydon, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with his bachelors degree in Music Composition and a Masters Degree in Music Education. He studied composition under Norman David and David Bennett Thomas

He is a two time winner of the Delaware Valley Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Youth in the Arts Contest” for his compositions A Pirates Life (2007) and The March Into Spring (2009) and the Best of City 1st Runner up in the “Philadelphia Inspired Expressions Contest” for his ragtime composition Splendiferous Rag (2007)

In addition to composing, M. J. Winstanley is a pianist who specializes in Ragtime and Traditional New Orleans Jazz. He has competed and placed in the top 10 in the “World Championship Old Time Piano Playing Contest in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He also plays washboard in Tex Wyndham’s Red Lion Jazz Band.
